The MeWelcome

This is my 'something about it'

Hello again,

Thank you for clicking futher into this website.

Like I say, I'm passionate, dedicated and unimpressed!

I am doing this because I am unhappy about the manner in which our politicians and people in authority have acted, and feel they have been found wanting.

That's a big statement!!

I don't think anything is too big to take on. We just need to try and that positive effect will grow, and others will join in.

Our children deserve better so I'm going to start doing my bit and make my local better.

And where better to start then the Local Elections on May 4th 2023.....?

Who am IMe

The Me bit,

So, what don’t you agree with?
I am embarrassed by the things I see and hear from politicians and powerful people.
This is what is driving me to do something. I personally think it is scary that my children will be passed a mess and if all I accomplish is a ripple of responsibility, well, that will still be a worthy achievement. If others do the same, and I believe others are trying, then that will be better than just watching and do nothing.

Politics then???

Well, I guess this is the place to start.
Crikey – Imagine telling me at 14 I’d be doing this in the future!
I will give the politicians the benefit of the doubt that they don’t mean any harm, but that does not excuse them. We must all get better to make them better. It will force them to improve and justify the trust you give them. I think that’s a good thing to do.
The younger generation are my motivation, so my first aim is to make the local council youthful. We must all be challenged to think differently, and youth will bring that.
Younger Generations have the drive and innovation to change their environment for the better. They will carry the future, so let’s get them involved earlier.
In my experience the older generation hold on to too much power and authority while not being able to see the issues they cause younger generations. Is this new?
No, ironically, ‘’put yourself in their boots’’ is a classic saying they use themselves, and then show the consistent inability to see your point of view.
This is a continual human system that needs to be balanced. This injection of youth will challange our habits and question our understanding of why we do things, and that is really healthy. This balance stops us going around in circles and trying to re-invent the wheel.
It’s about life and evolvement, not control to stay the same. You can make it more complicated if you want, people do, but it’s not.
For me it is simple, time is in the hands of younger generations, they have the real power.
The gift of older generations is to balance and guide, with experience and wisdom.
I look forward to the day when a person under 30 years old is elected over me, the perfect result.
So, what don’t you agree with?
We must all take responsibility for our local community.
We must all be part of it in equal measure.
We all need everyone’s input.

And my personality,

I am like marmite……..ha.
I will not pretend to be something I’m not.
I am not afraid of being different to the crowd.
I will be honest in my approach and won’t play games with trust.
I have experience in voicing views when others have stayed quiet.
My detractors don’t like being confronted, they switch every trait.
My passion will be accused of taking things personally.
My relentlessness will be accused of stubbornness.
My honesty will be accused as foolishness.
My kindness will be taken for weakness.
I hope you find this as a good, simple and swift introduction to my character and the manner in which I will serve our community. If I’m not your cup of tea, then maybe the best way to look at it is from the perspective of what makes an effective team.
What makes any relationship work? It is always the balance and my aim is younger people helping your community, this is something that I’m sure we will agree on.
I look forward to seeing you in Holmer & Shelwick and Herefordshire. Please come and talk to me about your local issues and then we can start something about it.
See you soon.
Mark

family & lifeHome

I live in Holmer & Shelwick with my fantastic partner and our annoying 18 year olds!……oh yes……….and 2 dogs!

We have lived in the village for 7 years and try our best to lead a balanced lifestyle.

I enjoy an active life, our countryside, our waterways and a glass of wine!

Zoe and I are founders of The Real Birth Company and Studio on Goal St.

We are very invested in people, community and a bright healthy future for Herefordshire.

I run a Real Birth Fathers and Men’s Birthing Conversation which are there to support new and expecting fathers through a special time of life.

I have been fortunate to be involved with other Men’s Perinatal Mental Health speakers and produce live vesrions of Men’s Birthing Conversation at Carfest. We look forward to continuing this at Carfest 2023.

Herefordshire has been a stable family home and we enjoy living here.

We look forward to seeing you. Come and say hello if you see us when we are at walking the dogs or at the local pub.
